Christian James Koehler was born on February 5, 1999.  Christian was a healthy 9 year old boy who lived in East Islip, NY and was an avid lacrosse and football player.  In May of 2008, he was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma brain tumor.  He immediately started chemotherapy and was treated at Cornell to remove the brain tumor.  Christian was an amazing boy who always had a smile on his face throughout his treatment.  After a long and courageous battle, Christian passed away on May 29, 2009.  He is survived by his loving parents, Janine & Chris and his siblings, Allison, Anthony and Victoria.

East Islip Lacrosse continues to honor the memory of Christian Kohler. All East Islip Youth Lacrosse players wear a “16” patch on their jerseys in his honor. East Islip High School Varsity Lacrosse selects a special player to wear 16 each season. Wearing 16 is an honor given to a player who exemplifies what it means to be an East Islip Lacrosse player, dedicated, hard working, and a leader.
